Auto Electrician – PSV / Bus & Coach

Salary: £43,000-£45,000

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Auto Electrician to join a busy and well-established PSV / Bus and coach operation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical maintenance, fault finding, diagnostics and repair of a modern and varied PSV fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, reliable and available for service.

 

The Role

 

As a PSV Auto Electrician, you will work as part of the engineering team, carrying out electrical maintenance and repairs across buses and coaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electrical faults across a range of PSV vehicles.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and routine electrical inspections.
• Fault-find using diagnostic equipment and electrical testing tools.
• Work on vehicle wiring, lighting, charging and starting systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic control systems.
• Work on CCTV, passenger information systems, destination displays and vehicle communication systems.
• Maintain and repair doors, ramps, wheelchair access systems and other electrical equipment.
• Assist with air-conditioning and auxiliary electrical systems where required.
• Investigate and rectify vehicle defects reported by drivers and engineering staff.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT, safety inspections and statutory testing.
• Complete accurate maintenance records and defect documentation.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, health & safety requirements and manufacturer standards.
• Support the wider engineering team with mechanical/electrical tasks when required.
• Work effectively to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise fleet availability.

 

About You

 

We are looking for an experienced Auto Electrician / Vehicle Electrician with a strong background in commercial vehicles, PSV, HGV, buses or coaches.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as an Auto Electrician, Vehicle Electrician or PSV Electrical Technician.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working on commercial vehicles, buses or coaches.
• Good understanding of vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.
• Experience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
• A methodical approach to fault finding and problem solving.
• Good understanding of vehicle safety and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

 

Desirable Experience

 

• PSV / bus and coach experience.
• IRTEC qualification.
• Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance, Auto Electrical or equivalent.
• Experience with modern multiplex electrical systems.
• Experience with electric, hybrid or low-emission vehicles.
• Experience with CCTV, passenger information and telematics systems.
• PCV licence.
