Job Title: Bus Upholsterer

Bus Upholsterer Job Role:
As a Bus Upholsterer / Bus Trimmer, you will specialise in the installation, repair, and restoration of interior furnishings in buses, coaches, and other passenger vehicles. This role is vital for ensuring that vehicle interiors are comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and compliant with safety standards.
Key responsibilities of the Bus Upholsterer:
- Remove old or damaged upholstery. Install new padding, webbing, and coverings using tools like staple guns, sewing machines, and tack hammers. Ensure all installations are secure and meet safety standards.
- Apply decorative elements such as piping, buttons, or logos. Ensure all seams are neat, and patterns align correctly
- Choose appropriate materials (fabrics, leathers, foams) based on durability, comfort, and aesthetic considerations. Measure and cut materials accurately to fit specific areas
- Perform routine maintenance on upholstery to prolong its lifespan. Restore worn or damaged areas to maintain the vehicle’s overall appearance.
- Inspect and evaluate the condition of existing upholstery, identifying areas requiring repair or replacement.
- Understanding of various upholstery materials and their suitability for different applications
Essential Skills & Qualifications needed for the Bus Upholsterer:
- Skilled in using upholstery tools and machinery, including sewing machines, staple guns, and cutting tools.
- Ability to ensure precision in measurements, cuts, and installations.
- Understanding of various upholstery materials and their suitability for different applications.
- Ability to address and rectify issues related to upholstery installations or repairs
- Completed an apprenticeship in upholstery or a related field
- NVQs/SVQs in upholstery or related disciplines or time served
