Job Title: Chargehand – Bus Garage
Location: Darlington
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time | Permanent
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Chargehand to join our engineering team at our busy bus garage in Darlington. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to take on a leadership role within a well-established and respected transport company.
About the Role: As a Chargehand, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the workshop team, ensuring all maintenance and repair work is carried out to the highest standards. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, your role will be key in ensuring our fleet remains roadworthy, reliable, and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support a team of engineers and technicians
- Carry out and oversee mechanical and electrical repairs on buses and coaches
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards and company procedures
- Collaborate with the operations team to maintain vehicle availability
- Maintain accurate records of work and parts usage
- Provide training and guidance to junior team members
Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Experience working on commercial vehicles, preferably in a bus or coach environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Flexibility to work various shifts including early, late, and occasional weekends
